ACMP Greater Vancouver Chapter member and board Director, Lindsay MacDonald, shares a thoughtful review of our most recent events.
Mid-September, I had the privilege of attending two ACMP Greater Vancouver hosted sessions with Karen Ball, from Prosci. Each session had a different focus and it was valuable to see the application of ADKAR in two entirely different contexts.
In the joint event, with the PMI Vancouver chapter, I sat with a group of Project Managers and got to see lots of head nodding as Karen showed how ADKAR aligned to both waterfall and agile projects and shared some of the PROSCI tools that can be used to align change and project management.
In the following session the focus was on communication. It was great to see some of the reframing that Prosci has created, promoting readiness rather than resistance. We also got to see parts of the ADKAR body of knowledge content that has been developed. It included examples around practical application on how to apply ADKAR in practice.
As I left with my signed copy of The ADKAR Advantage, I reflected once again on how accessible ADKAR is for those stepping into change management. It’s applicable for so many personal and workplace related scenarios regardless of your level of experience as a change practitioner.
I plan to read Karen’s book on my upcoming trip. For those who have a copy, let’s consider getting together at the next book club to share our thoughts. It looks like such a great read!
